The Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators (AUSIT) is the national association for the translating and interpreting profession. AUSIT bid for and won the 2017 World Congress of the International Federation of Translators with the city of Brisbane, Australia.
AUSIT is committed to providing a forum for exchange, fostering the development of professional relationships with fellow translators and interpreters, agencies and language service users, government departments, tertiary institutions and other industry stake holders, and promoting ethics and quality standards through the industry.
AUSIT is experienced in managing events and training workshops throughout the year to provide members the best opportunities to grow as translators and interpreters. This includes two signature events – the AUSIT Biennial National Conference and the AUSIT Excellence Awards.
AUSIT members adhere to a strict Code of Ethics and follow continuous professional development. This gives clients the opportunity to choose from a pool of experienced and qualified translators and interpreters. Additionally AUSIT, working with NAATI, has designed and implemented initiatives for training of interpreters for in-need languages of emerging immigrant communities, for which there are no traditional education and training pathways.
Australia supports industry research, and works collaboratively with all stakeholders. The translating and interpreting panorama has changed considerably since Australia last hosted the Congress in 1996. Hosting the 2017 Congress will offer global practitioners the chance to network with local industry professionals, developing existing professional networks and learn more about specific areas of professionalism and expertise in the Asia-Pacific Region.
